Terra-Stalk & Terra-Confirm Privacy Policy & Disclaimer
Terra-Stalk & Terra-Confirm Privacy Policy & Disclaimer
Published by Farm Road Industries · Last updated: 19 August 2026
This policy covers both of our apps. Terra-Stalk and Terra-Confirm are two separate apps, downloaded separately, that work the same way with your data. Where a section applies to only one of them, it says so.
The short version. Terra-Stalk is built to keep your information on your phone. There is no Terra-Stalk account, no login, and no Terra-Stalk server that collects your data. We do not use advertising networks, and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking tools. Your hunt areas, waypoints, tracks, journal and photos stay on your device. The main data that leaves your phone is the map area and coordinates you are looking at, which are sent to map and weather providers so the app can fetch tiles and forecasts.
Two things leave your phone only because you choose to send them: a hunt plan you text to someone (section 3), and a purchase, which is handled by Google Play and our subscription provider (section 7). Neither sends us your hunting records.
Maps and information are a guide only. Terra-Stalk's hunting-area, public-land, state-forest, park and closure maps come from official open data and are simplified for display - they can be out of date or imprecise, and are not a substitute for official sources. You are responsible for confirming you may legally and safely hunt before you do, and for obeying all laws, licence conditions and on-the-ground signage. See the Disclaimer in section 13.
1. Who we are
Terra-Stalk and Terra-Confirm ("the app", "we", "us") are published by Farm Road Industries. They are separate apps and are downloaded separately; this policy applies to both. Terra-Stalk provides offline mapping, GPS position and track recording, condition guidance (weather, solunar and related environmental information) for planning hunts, terrain and vegetation reading, insights drawn from your own hunt journal, and a hunt plan you can send to someone before you go. Terra-Confirm is a range and rifle logbook: it records your rifles, scopes, loads and range sessions, measures a shot group from a photograph of your target, and tracks cleaning, barrel life and licence expiry dates. Both run entirely on your device.
For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@terra-target.com.au.
2. Information stored on your device
The following is created and stored locally on your device, in the app's private storage. We do not receive a copy:
- Hunt areas, saved spots, ranges and area boundaries you create.
- Waypoints (for example wallows, sign, beds, trails) and recorded tracks.
- Your hunt journal entries and any notes you add.
- Photos you capture or select for features such as Impact Check, photos pinned to a spot or waypoint, and photos of your rifles, scopes and ammunition. Hidden location data is stripped from these - see section 3.
- Terra-Confirm records: your rifles and scopes, load and ammunition details you enter (including any handloading figures you choose to record for your own reference), range sessions and group measurements, cleaning history and barrel-life counts.
- Licence and permit records, including any photograph you choose to attach. If you photograph a firearms licence, permit or club membership, that image is stored only in the app's private storage on this device. It is never uploaded to us or to anyone else, it is excluded from Android system backup, and you can delete it at any time by removing the photo or the licence entry. Attaching a photo is entirely optional - the expiry reminder works from the date alone.
- Hunt plans you write, including the areas and times you enter, your intended parking spot, and the name and phone number of the person you nominate to contact. Those details stay on your device; they are used to compose a message that only you can send, and we never receive them. See section 3.
- Insights - the patterns the app draws from your own hunt journal (for example whether falling pressure has produced for you) are calculated on your device from your own records. Nothing is uploaded to build them, and they are not pooled with other users.
- Preferences and settings such as target species, units, clock format, jurisdiction settings, wallow tuning and map choices.
- Downloaded (cached) map tiles and saved weather forecasts that make the app usable offline.
This information is not transmitted to us and is not shared with other users. It remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
3. Location data and how it is used
With your permission, the app uses your device's location while you are using it ("when in use") to:
- show your position on the map;
- record a track and measure distances while you are stalking;
- centre the map and rate conditions for the spot you are at.
The app does not request "always / background" location permission, and it never records your position without you starting it.
Track recording continues with the screen off - on purpose. When you start recording a track, Terra-Stalk runs an Android foreground service so the recording is not cut off when the screen goes dark or the phone is in your pocket. Android shows a permanent notification for the whole time it is running, and it stops when you stop the recording. That track is written to your device and is not sent to us or to anyone else.
Your location history (tracks) is stored on your device, under your control. You can use much of the app without granting location access by selecting a location manually.
Sharing a hunt plan with someone you choose. Terra-Stalk can write a one-page hunt plan - where you expect to be, when to start worrying, and who to ring - and hand it to your phone's own messaging app so you can text it to a person you nominate. That message contains location information about where you intend to hunt.
- The message is composed on your device and sent through your messaging app, under your control. Terra-Stalk has no SMS permission and no server involved: we never see the plan, the message or the recipient.
- Once you send it, the plan is in the hands of the person you sent it to and their phone company, and we cannot recall or delete it.
- This is a way to tell someone your plan. It is not a rescue service, and the app can never call for help on your behalf. Carry a PLB or other emergency beacon.
Photos and exports are stripped of hidden location data. Photos you attach are stripped of embedded EXIF metadata (GPS coordinates, camera and timestamp) as they are taken in, and again on the way out of any export or share. When you export your spots to a GPX or KMZ file, you can optionally fuzz the saved coordinates by 1-3 km so a file you pass to someone else does not give away an exact location; recorded tracks are excluded from a fuzzed export entirely, because a track would reveal the precise ground the fuzzing is meant to hide. Anything you deliberately export or share leaves your control once you send it.
4. Services that receive requests from the app
To draw maps and show conditions, the app requests tiles and forecasts for the map area or coordinates you are viewing. Those requests reveal the area you are looking at, and - as with any normal internet request - your device's IP address is visible to whichever server answers it.
Most requests go to our own servers first. Weather and online aerial imagery are fetched through our Cloudflare Workers, which pass the request on to the provider. The provider therefore sees our Worker, not your device: your IP address is not passed on to them. Our Workers hold the provider API keys, cache responses by region, and do not store your coordinates or any identifier for you.
- Our Cloudflare Workers and R2 storage (Farm Road Industries) - serve the topographic map detail, aerial, vegetation and elevation tiles you stream or download, and proxy the requests below. Map data is OpenStreetMap (ODbL); aerial imagery is Esri World Imagery, Copernicus Sentinel and Australian/NZ state-government open data. The base map bundled inside the app (overview zoom levels, the hunting-area overlay and all fonts) loads with no network request at all.
- Open-Meteo - weather, forecast and solunar data for the coordinates you view. Reached through our Worker. (open-meteo.com/en/terms)
- Esri (ArcGIS World Imagery) - the online aerial imagery, when you turn the Aerial base map on. Reached through our Worker. If you choose to enter your own ArcGIS key in Settings, your device contacts Esri directly instead, and Esri then sees your IP address and your key.
-
Amazon Web Services (open terrain data,
elevation-tiles-prod) - contacted directly by your device for the most detailed elevation tiles, which we use to compute contours, slope, terrain shading and the thermal/drainage overlays. Coarser elevation comes from our own storage above. - RevenueCat (Terra-Stalk only) - the service that manages the optional Pro subscription. It is the one outside service that is not about maps or weather. It receives a randomly generated identifier for your app installation, the purchase and renewal status Google Play reports for it, and basic app and device information such as app version, country and platform. It does not receive your payment details, your name, your location, your spots or your journal. Terra-Confirm does not use it. See section 7. (revenuecat.com/privacy)
We do not control the providers above; their own privacy policies apply. We do not send any of them your name, your saved spots, your journal or an account identifier tied to your identity, because the app does not have one. Some of these providers are located outside Australia (for example in the United States and Europe), so the limited information described above may be handled overseas.
The app contains no advertising software, and no third-party analytics, crash-reporting or cross-app tracking tools. The only outside service that receives anything tied to your installation is the subscription service named above, and it is used solely to work out whether you have paid for the app.
5. Permissions we request
Terra-Stalk asks for:
- Location (approximate and precise) - to show your position, record tracks and rate the spot you are at, as described above.
- Foreground service (location) - so a track you have started keeps recording while the screen is off. It runs only while you are recording, and Android shows a notification the whole time it is running.
- Ignore battery optimisations - we ask for this only so Android does not suspend that recording part-way through a stalk. You can decline it; recording may then stop early on some phones.
- Notifications - to show the permanent notification Android requires while a track is recording, and to alert you if you are overdue against a hunt plan you set. We do not send marketing or promotional notifications.
- Vibration - for haptic feedback (button presses, the Stalk screen-lock and alerts).
- Internet access - to download map tiles and forecasts.
We do not request permission to send text messages. When you text a hunt plan, the app hands the drafted message to your own messaging app and you send it yourself.
Terra-Confirm asks for much less. It has no background location, no foreground service and no track recording. It reads your location once, only at the moment you tap "Fetch current" to record the weather against a range session, and it needs internet access for that lookup. If you never use that button, it never asks for your location at all.
We do not request camera or photo-library permission. When you attach a photo (for example in Impact Check), your phone's own camera or file picker hands the finished image to the app, so the app never gets access to your camera or library itself. Photos stay on your device.
You can review or revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. Denying a permission may limit the related feature but will not stop the rest of the app from working.
6. What we do not do
- We do not require an account and do not collect your name or email through the app.
- We do not use advertising or marketing SDKs.
- We do not use third-party analytics or crash/usage tracking SDKs.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or rent your personal information.
7. Purchases
Both apps are free to download and can be bought inside the app. Every payment is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see, collect or store your payment details - no card number, no billing address, no name. Google Play's own privacy policy governs the payment itself.
Terra-Confirm unlocks its full version with a single one-off in-app purchase, handled directly by Google Play with no other party involved. All the app receives back is whether this device's Google account owns the unlock, and a purchase token identifying that purchase. That is read on the device to decide which features to enable, it is not sent to us - there is no Terra-Confirm server - and it is not combined with anything else about you. If you reinstall the app or move to a new phone, the same check restores your purchase at no cost.
Terra-Stalk offers an optional annual Pro subscription (sold with a free trial period). Because a subscription has to be checked for renewal, expiry and restoration over time, we use RevenueCat to manage it rather than building a server of our own. When the app starts, it asks RevenueCat whether this installation has an active subscription.
- RevenueCat receives a randomly generated identifier for your app installation, the purchase and renewal status Google Play reports for it, and basic app and device information (such as app version, platform and country). This creates a record of your installation on RevenueCat's systems from the first time you open a version of the app that includes it.
- It does not receive your name, your email, your payment details, your location, your spots, your tracks or your journal. Your hunting data is never sent anywhere.
- We use it only to decide whether to switch on paid features, and to see anonymous totals of subscriptions and trials. It is not used for advertising and we do not use it to track you across other apps.
- Subscriptions are managed and cancelled in Google Play, not in the app.
You can use Terra-Stalk without subscribing, and you can decline the subscription entirely.
8. Data retention and deletion
Because your data is stored on your device, you control how long it is kept. You can delete individual items (spots, waypoints, tracks, journal entries, rifles, range sessions and licence records) inside the app, clear the app's storage from your device settings, or uninstall the app to remove all of its locally stored data. You may also export your data to keep your own copy.
9. Children
Terra-Stalk is intended for licensed adult hunters and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Security
Your information is held in the app's private, sandboxed storage on your device and is protected by your device's own security (lock screen, encryption). Requests to the third-party services listed above are made over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
11. Your privacy rights
Because we do not hold your personal information on a server, most rights of access, correction and deletion are exercised directly on your device by viewing, editing or deleting your data, or by uninstalling the app. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you are in the EU/UK, the GDPR/UK GDPR may give you additional rights; you can contact us to exercise them. If you have a concern we cannot resolve, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and publish the new version in the app and at the public URL below. Material changes will be highlighted in the app where practical.
13. Disclaimer: maps, hunting information and your responsibility
Terra-Stalk provides mapping and decision-support information for general guidance only. It is not legal, safety or professional advice, and it is not a substitute for official information or your own judgement in the field.
The mapping layers in the app - including hunting areas, public land, state forests, national parks and reserves, hunting closures, and any boundaries - are derived from third-party and government open data (for example the Victorian Game Management Authority and DEECA, Forestry Corporation of NSW, and the Collaborative Australian Protected Areas Database), used under their respective open licences. That data is simplified for display and may be incomplete, out of date or inaccurate, particularly near a boundary. Seasons, closures, ballots, declarations and access rights change frequently.
You must not rely on Terra-Stalk to decide where it is lawful or safe to hunt, shoot or enter. You are solely responsible for hunting lawfully, ethically and safely, including holding the correct licences and complying with all applicable laws, licence conditions, seasons, bag limits, closures, firearm rules and landholder permissions. Always confirm the current rules with the relevant authority (such as the Game Management Authority, NSW DPI / Hunt NSW, or the land manager) and obey on-the-ground signage, gates and directions, which take precedence over this app.
Weather, solunar, thermal, scent and other predictions are estimates based on third-party data and models. They are provided without any guarantee of accuracy and should not be relied on for safety-critical decisions.
The same applies to the terrain and behaviour features. Suggested bedding areas, likely routes, hunt ratings, pre-hunt briefs and the patterns drawn from your own journal are estimates produced by a model from terrain and weather data. They are a focus aid for where to look and when to go - never a statement that an animal is present, that ground is safe, or that it is passable. Judge the country in front of you with your own eyes.
The hunt plan feature is not a safety or emergency service. It only helps you write and send a message to someone you choose. It does not monitor you, it cannot detect that you are in trouble, and neither it nor Farm Road Industries can summon help on your behalf. Message delivery depends on mobile coverage and your phone network, and may fail. Do not rely on it as your safety plan: carry a personal locator beacon or satellite communicator, and tell someone your plans independently of this app.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app and its data are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, and Farm Road Industries is not liable for any loss, damage, injury, penalty or prosecution arising from your use of, or reliance on, the app or its information. Nothing in this disclaimer excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable law.
